Great addition to my library

My post-apocalyptic shelf is full of greats like Alas Babylon, Lucifer's Hammer and The Guardians series. Reed's Ashes series is right at the top along with William Johnstone's Out of the Ashes series. Despite the similarity in name and the central role of honor in both storylines, they take separate but compelling paths in describing what a post-civilized America may be like.

I love the storyline. I absolutely love the characters and the character they have. I love the way they are portrayed from their brotherhood and their time serving. I wish they were real so I could meet them!

N.C. Reed doesn't really exist. He's just part of someone's imagination. But if he was real, they would imagine him as a gray haired grouch who likes pecan pie entirely too much. Furthermore, He would be a constant source of annoyance to a loving and doting wife. Despite that, the mutant Doberman would spend much time in his company as he writes. Or as he pretends to write in order to get people to leave him alone. Or rather as he sits by the window and wonders who that is driving down 'his' road. Or when he just locks himself in his study and pretends no one is calling his name.

He would enjoy hunting and fishing if he could do it comfortably and only in good weather. He would enjoy working in his yard, except when it was cold. Or hot. Or he didn't want to. Or if it weren't so much actual work. He would enjoy field trips of a historical nature such as Civil War battlefields and Colonial settlements, if they weren't so far away and require an overnight stay to visit. Being an avid Tennessee fan, he would enjoy games at Neyland Stadium, if there weren't so many steps. Or if there was an escalator. Or a hover board. A big one.

Most of all, he would enjoy creating stories that interest others. Stories that people would want to read again and again. That they would want to share with others. He would enjoy entertaining others and creating a world outside of reality to relax in, even if it were just for a few hours. And he would be grateful to those who followed his works and were kind enough to tell him so. It would be those people that he wrote for.

If he was real, that is. . . .

Sean Liscom is a writer extraordinaire! He has given us a bona fide survival story peopled by characters we can admire, and root for. The action is breath stealing and the abundance of information is worth filing away for the future! I CANT wait to start the next book! I was born in October of 1970 in California but have lived in northern Nevada since 1977. At an early age, I was bitten by the Fireman bug. In the spring of 1988 I joined the local volunteer fire department. I served in several different capacities from Firefighter I, EMT-B, Engine Operator, Safety Officer, Training Officer, Engine Captain and Type III Incident Commander. I retired on 01-01-11.

Afterwards, during the summer of 1989, I found myself joining up with a government contracted engine strike team. I also served with them in different positions that mirrored my volunteer service with the exception of becoming a Strike Team Leader. With 5 Type III engines, two water tenders and two service vehicles under my control, I had to quickly learn how to deal with the "human" element. I must have done okay because they kept asking me to come back to work for them. That lasted until the season ended in 1999.

Now with a wife and family of my own, I made the move into the private sector where I worked at various security and warehouse jobs. Very early on, I learned that job security was pretty much a thing of the past. With that lesson, I learned about prepping. It may sound odd to tie the two together but I always had something in reserve for when I was out of work. Now, I never stayed out of work for very long but it did happen.

At first I thought I was nuts. Why store food and water? Ammo and firearms? I mean, really? The world was a pretty stable place. Money still had a way of coming in and the bills were getting paid, so why the prepping? One day I decided to talk to my dear friend about my newfound obsession. All he did was grin from ear to ear and welcome me to the dark side! Turns out, he was a prepper too!

I've been at it now for a couple of decades and you may think that is what led me to write my own book. Well, it wasn't. The story of Jason Sterling has been bouncing around in my head since about 1987ish. It's gone through so many changes that I can't even begin to tell you. All I DO know is that it's something that I've wanted to do for a very, very long time. There are so many half written manuscripts in my storage shed that it's just ridiculous.

In September of 2016, I sat down with my laptop and started writing. The story that unfolded in my head and on the computer screen is what I submitted to Amazon a year later. Of course, there were re-writes and the inevitable writers block, but I managed to work my way through that with the help and support of my beautiful wife, Denise. Even when she was struggling with the hellish side-effects of chemotherapy, she stood strong and let me bounce ideas off of her.

Read them all.  They are that good.

I thought this was a series, but found that each of these books are standalone. They approach prepping in different ways, but reach the same conclusions: No prepping is enough; expect the unexpected; trust only yourself... Young's peppers are usually rich or at least well to do. However the prepping can be done by anyone. So you can't buy a new piece of equipment to dig your foundation. Dig it yourself. Start now and quit complaining. You don't need a hundred guns. Pick two or three, save up for them and come to Arizona where you can buy them at swap meets without any paperwork. Young's concept of prepping is to "just do it."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jerry D Young was born at home, in Senath, Missouri July 3, 1953. At age 5 the family rented a small farm house on an active farm 40 miles southwest of St. Louis. While the family weren't farmers, they lived something of a homestead type life, raising a milk cow, sometimes two, and calves, a pig or two, chickens, and the occasional goat. Along with the stock, a large garden helped to feed Jerry's three brothers and two sisters for several years. Fishing and hunting contributed to the pantry, as did foraging the wild edibles on the property.

At the age of 14, the family, minus a brother and two sisters that were now adults and on their own, moved back to Senath. Having been encouraged from an early age to read, Jerry was a regular patron of the Senath Branch Library.

A love of a good story was born within him, and shortly before graduating high school, for a lack of stories that he liked at the library, he began to write short vignettes, and started taking notes for stories that he wanted to tell. Well, a full life interceded, and the writing didn't resume for several years.

But while working a job with a much free time, and the then newfangled home computer, Jerry began to write in earnest. With the occasional gap in the process, Jerry continued to research and write, never believing he could ever be published. But when he turned 50, he wanted a change in his life, left the job he was doing and published two of the novels he wrote. "Mr. Man" and then "Shipwrecked!" through an online POD publisher.

When he became ill, the writing stopped, but not the inspiration. When he started writing again, in 2004, after getting the medical problems under control, he began to read some on-line stories dealing with emergency preparedness, one of his other loves. The die was cast. Now with over a hundred of the vignettes and short stories about how to survive disasters written, along with his other novels, Jerry decided to go for broke, and took the opportunity Amazon offered by allowing authors to put their works on line for Kindle users.

Adding one of his previous works every few days to his list of stories now available, Jerry continues to write, both the Prep/PAW stories, as well as action adventure with a little romance type stories that first got him started.  Thanks to his extensive body of work he is widely known as the "Dean of Post-Apocalyptic Fiction."
